Hello! We're a creative animation studio and production company based in Cardiff. Our work covers broadcast, particularly children's TV, feature films, short films, music videos and animation for live performance.
Animation is one of the most powerful tools for telling stories. It can be beautiful, accessible, and is one of the best ways to make your story and message cut through and reach the people who need to hear it.
For us, creativity is a relationship. We want to fall in love with your story. With an extremely adaptable pipeline and a trusted network of talented collaborators, we have the capability to produce projects in traditional and digital 2D and stop motion animation, to bring dreams out of notebooks and on to the screen – whatever the size of the project, whatever the style.
We have created animation to breathe life into political campaigns and news broadcasts, to teach Welsh nursery rhymes to children, to explain complex new strategy proposals to government ministers, and to bring exciting new possibilities to documentary film and theatre productions. Clients include Channel 4 News, ITN, S4C, , Public Health Wales, Transport for Wales, The Grierson Trust, UK Youth, WEN Wales, The Globe Theatre and Wales Millennium Centre.
Get in touch to talk to us about your project.
Picl is run by Lauren Orme, a BAFTA-nominated animator and director with a passion for distinctive stories and and nine years experience working in animation.
Lauren has a degree in animation from the University of Wales, Newport, where her borderline unhealthy love of animated short films was born. As well as running Picl, Lauren founded the biennial Cardiff Animation Festival and bimonthly Cardiff Animation Nights, bringing brilliant animated shorts created by others to audiences in Cardiff since 2014. Lauren's animated short films have been screened at over a hundred festivals around the world. When she's not working on Picl projects Lauren's usually exploring the Welsh countryside or tucked up indoors watching Gogglebox.
Freelance Director, Producer & Animator
Stephen has been working in animation since 2011. He works in 2D and 3D keyframe animation with Moho, Blender and After Effects in his tool belt. Stephen studied Documentary Film at University where he learnt the importance of telling a good story.
Stephen loves building watertight pipelines and clever rigs almost as much as he loves bringing animated characters to life. When he's not leading on projects you can find Stephen learning new software or testing himself with daily animation challenges. Stephen loves Don Hertzfeldt, vegan food and computer games Lauren hasn't heard of. You can find more of Stephen's work at cgnerd.com.
